RACE REPORT | MotoGP Italy 2026

Marco Bezzecchi claimed an excellent victory after a hard-fought battle with Francesco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin. The race featured plenty of overtakes, mistakes and crashes, providing excitement from the first lap to the last.

Bezzecchi made a strong start and took the lead, with his Aprilia teammate Jorge Martin moving into second place. Raúl Fernández also got away well, but a mistake at Turn 1 sent him wide and dropped him to 17th.

Behind the Aprilias, Francesco Bagnaia settled into third, while Marc Márquez followed in fourth. Fabio Di Giannantonio lost several places at the start and fell to 11th.

On lap two, Martin attempted to pass Bezzecchi at Turn 1, but ran wide and dropped behind Bagnaia into third place. After the opening lap, the top positions were Bezzecchi, Bagnaia, Martin, Márquez, Aldeguer, Ogura, Moreira, Bastianini and Binder.

Bagnaia soon used Ducati’s straight-line speed to move ahead of Bezzecchi and take the lead. Meanwhile, Márquez ran wide at Turn 1 but managed to stay ahead of Pedro Acosta.

As the race continued, Fernández began to recover through the field and climbed into 12th place. At the front, Bagnaia and Bezzecchi built a gap of more than seven tenths over Martin, while the battle between Márquez and Acosta allowed Martin to pull away from them.

At the end of lap six, Acosta passed Márquez, but the Ducati rider immediately fought back on the straight. Acosta attacked again and finally secured fourth place. Soon after, Márquez ran wide at Turn 3, allowing Fermín Aldeguer through. However, Márquez quickly regained the position and moved back ahead of both Acosta and Aldeguer. Aldeguer then remained fifth ahead of Acosta.

By lap 10, the top 10 were Bagnaia, Bezzecchi, Martin, Márquez, Acosta, Aldeguer, Ogura, Di Giannantonio, Bastianini and Fernández.

The first yellow flags appeared on lap 11 when Álex Rins crashed out. At the same time, Martin began to close the gap to the two leaders. Cal Crutchlow later retired in the pits, while another yellow flag was shown after Enea Bastianini crashed at Turn 10.

On lap 14, Bezzecchi overtook Bagnaia to regain the lead. Acosta also challenged Márquez again but ran wide, allowing the Ducati rider to stay ahead. Two laps later, Acosta finally completed a successful pass on Márquez. At the front, Martin also moved past Bagnaia, pushing the Ducati rider down to third.

Márquez continued to struggle, running wide several times. This allowed Ai Ogura and Fabio Di Giannantonio to move ahead of him.

On lap 20, Ogura passed Acosta, but the two riders touched as Acosta tried to fight back. Shortly afterwards, Di Giannantonio also got ahead of the KTM rider.

The top 10 at that stage were Bezzecchi, Martin, Bagnaia, Ogura, Di Giannantonio, Acosta, Márquez, Aldeguer, Fernández and Binder.

At the chequered flag, Bezzecchi crossed the line first to secure victory. Fernández completed a strong recovery by passing Binder for eighth place. Martin finished second, while Bagnaia completed the podium in third.
